Before he wrote novels, N.M. Knight spent nineteen years as a tattoo artist. He won national awards for that work and appeared on Spike TV’s Ink Master. He also writes screenplays.
Silence Among the Driftwood is his first novel. He worked on it for years, and 112 literary agents turned it down. He published it himself anyway, after paying more than $18,000 of his own money for editors, and it came out in October 2026.
The book started on Jekyll Island. In his words: “For years, the image of those grey, twisted trees on Jekyll Island stayed with me, whispering a story of buried secrets and a tide that refuses to keep them.” He set the novel there and across the river in Brunswick, Georgia.
