Who runs this site
silenceamongthedriftwood.com is the website for Silence Among the Driftwood, run by its author, N.M. Knight. When this page says “we,” it means him.
Your email address, if you sign up
The signup form asks for one thing: your email address. We use it to tell you about N.M. Knight’s books, starting with the next one. We don’t ask for your name, and we don’t sell, rent or trade the list.
The address is stored with Resend, the email service that keeps our mailing list. Every email we send will have an unsubscribe link. You can also email us at any time to see the address we hold, correct it or have it deleted. We keep it until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. We may download a copy of the list to back it up or move it to another email service; we delete those copies when they’re no longer needed, and a request to delete your address covers them too.
Visiting the site
Like every website, ours receives your IP address and basic request details (the page you asked for, your browser type) so it can send the page back. The site is hosted by Railway, and its domain runs through Cloudflare. Both may keep standard server logs for a short time to keep the service running and secure.
To stop abuse of the signup form, the site counts recent attempts from each IP address. That count lives in the server’s memory for up to an hour and is never written to disk.
We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which doesn’t use cookies and doesn’t track you across other websites. It tells us things like how many people read chapter one, not who they are.
Cookies
The site sets no cookies for readers. The only cookie is a strictly necessary login cookie on the private admin page, used by the author to edit the site. It holds no personal information.
Children
This site isn’t meant for children under 13, and we don’t knowingly collect their email addresses. If you think a child has signed up, tell us and we’ll delete the address.
Your rights
Wherever you live, you can ask us what we hold about you, get a copy, correct it or have it deleted. If you are in the EU, the UK or California, the law gives you those rights too, along with the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the new version goes on this page with a new date.
